Privacy Policy

English | Italiano

The current App Store version of Cairn processes captures locally on your Mac and does not send screenshots, voice recordings, transcripts, searches, or usage events to Cairn.

1. Controller

Anton Platonov, ditta individuale, Bologna, Italy (P.IVA 04308291204), operates Cairn and is the controller for the cairn.software website. Contact: help@cairn.software. Full legal notice.

2. App data

When you press the capture hotkey, Cairn can record a screenshot, voice note, typed note, OCR text, transcript, embeddings, and related metadata. In the current App Store version, this app data is stored in the macOS App Sandbox container at ~/Library/Containers/software.cairn.app/Data/Library/Application Support/cairn/. We do not receive this app data and cannot inspect, retrieve, correct, export, or delete it for you.

3. Distribution and diagnostics

App Store downloads, updates, purchases, refunds, and Apple diagnostics are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. If you enable macOS “Share with App Developers”, Apple may make crash and performance diagnostics available in App Store Connect. Cairn may also store MetricKit diagnostic JSON locally in its sandbox; Cairn does not upload those files to us.

4. AI and biometrics

Cairn uses on-device AI and machine-learning components for transcription, OCR, embeddings, and search. No app data is sent by Cairn to OpenAI or another AI provider. These outputs can be inaccurate, so do not rely on them where accuracy matters.

Voice recordings are transcribed locally into text. Cairn does not perform speaker identification, voice-printing, or biometric identification.

5. Retention and deletion

Your app data stays on your Mac until you delete it. To remove all Cairn app data, uninstall the app and delete ~/Library/Containers/software.cairn.app/.

6. Your rights

Where GDPR applies to personal data we process as controller, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, portability, and objection. You may contact help@cairn.software with questions or lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. The Italian authority is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.

7. Children

Cairn is not directed at children, and the App does not knowingly collect or transmit data from anyone to us.

8. CCPA / US state laws

Cairn does not sell or share personal information within the meaning of the CCPA/CPRA, VCDPA, CPA, CTDPA, UCPA, DPDPA, or OCPA. We do not receive app content such as captures, voice notes, transcripts, OCR text, embeddings, or searches. Website request data is handled as described in the website section below.

9. The cairn.software website

The website sets no cookies, runs no first-party analytics, and embeds no third-party trackers or fonts. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which acts as our website hosting, CDN, and security provider. Cloudflare may process technical request and security data, such as IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent, network diagnostics, and abuse-prevention metadata, to deliver the site, prevent abuse, and keep the service secure.

Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)): our legitimate interest in reliably delivering the website, preventing abuse, and maintaining security. Cairn does not export or separately retain website access logs, and we do not consult those logs to profile visitors or combine them with other data. Cloudflare retains technical request and security logs according to the retention periods applicable to the Cloudflare services and account settings.

Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States and may process website request data internationally. Cloudflare's customer data processing terms describe its transfer safeguards, including its EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework participation where applicable and Standard Contractual Clauses for relevant international transfers.

10. Changes

If Cairn's behavior changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update the version and date at the top of this page.
